George Venancio Nicholson is a people person, humble and convivial with an easy-going personality. He has worked as a taxi driver at the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) for over 22 years, proudly and readily offering his transportation services to persons from all walks of life, including tourists, taking them to all corners of Belize.
More than serving as a taxi driver, Mr. Nicholson has been the first point of contact for many who come to Belize. His love and great knowledge of the country and his reliability as a driver have earned him the admiration and trust of friends, colleagues, and visitors. During the pandemic, when the PGIA and the borders were closed as a result of the lockdown, Mr. Nicholson was instrumental in transporting stranded visitors to their respective destinations, many times leading into the wee hours.
For his unselfish service to his community and for his dedication and love to his profession, Mr. Nicholson was selected as the BTB’s Frontline Hero for the month of July “Being recognized by the BTB as a Frontline Hero means a lot to me. It’s a priceless gift,” Mr. Nicholson says.
As part of his award, Mr. Nicholson received a cash prize of $1,500 courtesy of the BTB, a staycation package courtesy of The Lodge at Chaa Creek for a two-night stay for two, breakfast, and activities on-site, as well as a 60-minute Massage and spa treatment courtesy Mrs. Bryony Fleming-Bradley.
The BTB congratulates Mr. Nicholson on his Frontline Hero Award and thank him for his dedication, hard work, and excellent service to Belize.
