Belize City, Belize, November 29, 2024: Today, Belize welcomed the first of 180 international travelers that will be arriving on weekly chartered VivaAerobus flight from Cancún, Mexico. This group of European travelers will embark on Ponant Cruises’ luxury expedition vessel, Le Bellot for an itinerary that explores Belize’s rich historical and coastal landscapes, and includes stops in Belize City, Placencia, and Half Moon Caye.
Le Bellot is owned by renowned French cruise line Ponant Cruises and will make Belize its home for the next few months. It will make five calls in Belize between November 29 and December 29, 2024, with guests arriving at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (PGIA), then boarding their ship, which boasts a capacity of 184 guests and 112 crew members, for an immersive week-long cruise.
Belize plays a vital role in Le Bellot’s cruise operations, allowing guests to begin and end their voyage in Belize. Upon return, some travelers have the option to fly back to Cancún from Belize City or take a tour extension to Mexico or Guatemala. Furthermore, approximately 20 to 25 crew members will also embark or disembark in Belize each week, contributing to the ship’s seamless operations and exceptional guest experience. Guests and crew can also stay overnight at local accommodations either before or after their cruise, adding further economic benefit to the country.
Today’s arrival of the VivaAerobus Airbus A320 also represents the first visit of the Mexican ultra-low-fare carrier to Belize. This partnership of airlift and cruises underscores Belize’s ongoing tourism product diversification as well as its unique appeal to airlines and luxury expedition cruises, because of the country’s ability to offer guests a distinctive blend of cultural and natural experiences.
