Belize City, Belize, September 27, 2022: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) today, on World Tourism Day, honored PC 989, Rolando Tino Oh, as its Frontline Hero for the month of September. The award was bestowed on PC Oh for his outstanding work as a member of the Tourism Police Unit (TPU).
PC Oh has been working with the TPU in San Ignacio for the past 18 years and dedicates himself to visiting the many tourism areas in western Belize. He conducts regular security checks at the various hotels/resorts and archaeological sites, many times working long-drawn-out hours into the night. PC Oh also visits downtown San Ignacio where he regularly interacts with visitors providing guidance and security.
PC Oh, is a very dedicated and committed officer who takes pride in the work he does within the tourism industry. This was especially evident during the height of the pandemic, post the reopening of the borders, when he spent extended hours looking after the safety of visitors to Caracol and ensuring that hotels/resorts had all the health protocols in place.
“Receiving BTB’s Frontline Hero Award means a lot to me and I feel proud to be honored for my success in my line of duty. I am so happy to work in partnership with the BTB to serve my country and protect our tourism industry as the number one contributor to Belize’s economy,” PC Oh said upon receiving his award from the Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations.
The BTB hereby congratulates PC Oh for his dedicated service to the tourism industry and the country of Belize. PC Oh was awarded with a cash prize of $1,500 courtesy of the BTB and a weekend stay for two at The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant with breakfast and a horse and buggy ride courtesy of The Belize Collection.
The BTB’s Frontline Hero Award program was established last year to recognize outstanding Belizeans who have served Belize beyond their call of duty. This program is operated in collaboration with tourism stakeholders who have been generous in contributing prizes to the honorees.
