Task/Responsibilities
- Monitor, track, and report on Tax Payer KPIs such as revenue performance, compliance record, risk and statistical information.
- Perform detailed analysis of records of taxpayers that have been selected for audit, and conduct pre-audit planning and preparation.
- Plan, Organize and Perform Desk and Field Audits of Accommodation properties countrywide. This includes arrangements for all logistical requirements for Audits.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive audit reports and working papers, and follow up with corrective actions.
- Maintain Taxpayer and Audit Files, and address concerns from stakeholders on matters relating to tax revenue.
- Support the Licensing Unit in its licensing function, ensuring that properties are in financial good standing with the BTB.
- Issue Tax Assessments for undeclared revenues.
- Address Tax Payer Compliance issues such as Late and Non-Filing. Research and Investigate Unregistered Properties that are operating illegally. Maintain tracking and follow-up tools. Prepare monthly compliance reports.
- Assist the Cruise & Capacity Development Department where there is the need to ensure that hotels take corrective measures to satisfy a complaint that involves payments or refunds (complaints by staff and guests). Maintain tracking and follow-up tools and relays information to the Cruise & Capacity Development Department.
- Prepare monthly reports summarizing the actions taken and results achieved as relates to departmental objectives.
- Reconciliation of all Customer Accounts (including Live-Aboards); Prepare requests for Adjustments along with proper documentation; Collection of arrears, fines and penalties; Prepare case files for Ministerial Waivers, Maintain tracking and follow-up tools Prepare monthly reports on Arrears.
- Engagement, Education and Sensitization of BTB clients on relevant policies and legislations as well as their responsibilities as participants in the Tourism Industry.
- Assist ROH & Senior Tax Auditor in updating input to the annual audit plan
- Assist ROH & Senior Tax Auditor in updating input to the annual compliance plan
- Assist ROH & Senior Tax Auditor in updating input the annual collections plan

Qualifications: Education / Experience / Skills required of the position.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- 3 years work experience in the field of auditing and accounting.
- Working knowledge of widely used electronic accounting and hotel reservation systems and packages.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of Internationally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Working knowledge of tax laws in Belize.
- Solid understanding of business transactions, process flows and cycles, preferably of hotels and tourism-related businesses.
- Good understanding of the principles of internal controls and risk, and the ability to assess the same.
- Strong ability to analyze data and financial transactions and formulate valid conclusions.
- Excellent command of the English language and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Good knowledge of Spanish is considered an asset.
- Paralegal training is considered an asset.
- Must possess a positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team to achieve common goals.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and exercise professionalism and good judgment.
- Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proactive, goals oriented, internally motivated and capable of working with limited supervision.

- Ability to travel domestically frequently.
Supervisory responsibilities/Authority allocated: (The scope of the person’s authority, including a list of jobs that report to the incumbent. Authorities refer to many things for which permission is not necessary, including: resources the position is allowed to commit, people with whom the position may openly communicate, meetings the position is allowed to convene, agreements the position may make, etc.)
- The Tax Auditor is neither an entry level nor a supervisory position. He/she works with other members of the Audit Team and reports to the Senior Tax Auditor.
- The Tax Auditor may convene meetings with hotel owners for the purpose of legal audits, addressing compliance issues, the collection of arrears, and the follow-up on complaints made against the property, so long as his/her work plans are approved by his immediate supervisor.
- The Tax Auditor may, with the knowledge and approval of ROH and the Senior Tax Auditor, make field decisions during the audit process based on the established guidelines and procedures of the Registrar of Hotels Department in consideration of the Hotels and Tourist Accommodation and Time Share, and other relevant Acts (The scope of the person’s authority, including a list of jobs that report to the incumbent. Authorities refer to many things for which permission is not necessary, including: resources the position is allowed to commit, people with whom the position may openly communicate, meetings the position is allowed to convene, agreements the position may make, etc.)
- The Tax Auditor is neither an entry level nor a supervisory position. He/she works with other members of the Audit Team and reports to the Senior Tax Auditor.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: The physical skills and demands and the environmental working conditions required by the job.
This job requires moderate physical demands including constant sitting and constant communicating. Environmental working conditions are normal.
