Enhancing San Ignacio’s Tourism Landscape: El Cayo Boardwalk Officially Inaugurated

Belize City, Belize, January 27, 2025: Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, in collaboration with Hon. Orlando Habet, Cayo North East Area Representative and Minister of Sustainable Development & Climate Change, officially inaugurated the El Cayo Board Walk on January 25, 2025. This new addition to Belize’s tourism infrastructure aligns with the Belize Tourism Board’s overarching goal of enhancing the Cayo District’s appeal to visitors and tourism offerings while contributing to economic growth and sustainability in Belize’s tourism sector.

Strategically located near the San Ignacio Market and along the scenic banks of the Macal River, the El Cayo Boardwalk showcases the area’s natural beauty and history. The boardwalk features a deck with railways, a canopy for shade, informative panels, and four colorful kiosks. These kiosks will not only add to the aesthetic appeal but also provide entrepreneurial opportunities for local businesses. 

During the inauguration ceremony, Hon. Anthony Mahler highlighted the immense potential of the Cayo district and the importance of continued investments and partnerships in tourism infrastructure nationwide to strengthen Belize’s tourism product. Hon. Orlando Habet shared that the boardwalk represents a long-held vision come to fruition with plans to extend the project along the banks of the Macal River. 

The El Cayo Boardwalk is poised to become a vibrant hub, offering residents and visitors a space to relax, connect with nature, and enjoy the beloved charm of San Ignacio.
